The Conversations That Matter Most

The conversations you avoid are often the ones that matter most.

Whether it is giving feedback, addressing performance concerns, challenging a colleague’s thinking, managing client expectations or discussing a difficult issue with a stakeholder, lawyers regularly face conversations that feel uncomfortable, sensitive or high stakes.

These conversations are rarely difficult because of the subject matter alone.

More often, they become difficult because emotions, assumptions, misunderstandings and defensive reactions get in the way of productive dialogue.

Handled well, these conversations can strengthen relationships, build trust, improve performance and lead to better outcomes for everyone involved.

Handled poorly, they can create conflict, damage relationships and leave important issues unresolved.

This practical workshop will help you approach difficult conversations with greater confidence, clarity and effectiveness.

Drawing on coaching techniques, behavioural psychology and practical communication frameworks, you will learn how to create constructive dialogue, reduce defensiveness and address challenging issues while maintaining trust and professionalism.

By attending, you will learn how to:

  • Prepare for difficult conversations with greater confidence and structure
  • Deliver feedback in a way that is clear, constructive and supports development
  • Turn potentially negative conversations into opportunities for learning and growth
  • Recognise how people (including yourself) typically react under pressure
  • Understand the emotions and concerns that often sit beneath defensive behaviour
  • Use questioning and listening techniques to build understanding and reduce resistance
  • Communicate challenging messages clearly while preserving trust and relationships
  • Address issues early before they become larger problems
  • Handle difficult client, colleague and stakeholder conversations more effectively
  • Create productive conversations that focus on solutions and outcomes

This is an interactive, practical workshop combining short theory sessions with discussion, exercises, reflection and real-world legal scenarios.

Participants are encouraged to bring examples from their own practice and will have opportunities to apply the frameworks and techniques to genuine situations they face in their day-to-day work.

You will also receive access to Quiver Management’s Online Academy, where you will be able to revisit all the models and techniques shared during the workshop.

Many lawyers spend significant time developing their technical expertise. Yet some of the greatest opportunities to improve outcomes, strengthen relationships and enhance professional effectiveness come from mastering the conversations that others avoid.

Learn how to handle difficult conversations with greater confidence, empathy and skill – and turn challenging situations into opportunities for trust, growth and better outcomes.
