Hi Nick, and welcome to the team at Quiver Management. How would you describe yourself at work?

I like to bring an interesting, engaging and fun style to my coaching and training – with a bit of banter thrown in and enough reality and metaphor to bring it alive for my learners.

I want to try and evangelise coaching. Not to make it evangelistic, but to get people within the organisations we work with passionate about coaching and the difference it can make.

Coaching is one of few development tools which can be truly transformational at every single level and ability in an organisation. Whether you’re the top brass or an apprentice, you can all benefit. Put together, it can have a direct impact on the organisation’s bigger ambitions.

Tell us about someone who has influenced you in the 17 years you have worked in learning and development

I really admire a gentleman named Dave Cornthwaite. He’s a motivational speaker, an adventurer, and an author with a campaign called ‘Say Yes More’. Rather than finding a reason not to do things, he encourages audiences to find reasons to say yes to life and to life’s adventures.

I want to encourage people in work and in play to try new opportunities for themselves. To try and change their behaviour a little bit, to do things that they haven’t done before. There is great realisation and great opportunity in that. I want to be the engager, the facilitator, the trigger for this.

What do you want to be remembered for?

I really enjoy having one-to-one time, working with people and exploring the areas they want to focus on.

And I also like working groups who are really keen learners, active and engaged. I enjoy being able to explore with them different methods and approaches, getting them to really think and take those examples on board.

So I want mostly to be remembered for being a giver in life, rather than a taker. Giving my time and myself to others – whether that is friends, family, the charities I work for or the delegates I train.
